For the love of God, Thomas Sowell goes

Thomas Sowell was a giant in American letters; for the Right, for now, but I expect his work will live on outside it. Not all of his work, though. Sowell raises on his own the question is not why I am quitting, but why I kept at it so long but this meandering article does not, unfortunately, give us its answer.

As Theodore "Vox Day" Beale points out, the man lost his fastball under the second Bush administration. Signing on to the National Review's jeremiad against our now President-elect was just his most recent mistake. And you'll notice he was ignored.

There are many people in our top echelons of media and government who think they're indispensable, who have sat too long for any good you have been doing. We snicker when this disease affects the Democrats. But the Democrats are just the New Class's public face. There are plenty of undead clinging on to the Republican Party as well. And not just in the formal partisan apparatus.

I wish Dr Sowell well, but he should have gone "emeritus" earlier. If he did this too late to be an example, at least let him be a cautionary tale.
