Abiding by unholy law

Lewis (p. 71) points out of Islam, since it encompasses all existence, that it has no native word for the sacred. The Qur'an uses quds for Jewish and Christian concepts, like the Holy Spirit and old Canaan. For Islamic concepts like the shari'a, it's just... what God wants.

By definition, if it's not shari'a it's not what God wants. In non-Muslim land, if Muslims follow the local law then either that law coincides with what shari'a already dictates, like laws against not stealing from Muslims; or else they're chafing under arbitrary oppression from unauthorised tyrants. They'll do it if they weigh the options and fear the coming anarchy. But if someone offers an Islamic State as alternative...
