Two proud white ethnic nationalists complain about the NWF
Scottishlizard1 / Celtic Dragon posted some non-sequituri at Charles' Mansion. She thinks Covington the mentally-addled paranoid Nazi inspired Dylann Roof (safe link to Daedalus). This twice-self-identified Scot succeeds... in painting Covington as a mentally-addled paranoid Nazi. But as for the Covington "inspiration" for the atrocity - well.
Covington's ideas are indeed floating around the same circles Roof floated around. We are wanting for evidence that Roof had read any of Covington's work firsthand. This is what Roof wrote in his manifesto:
Here I would also like to touch on the idea of a Norhtwest Front. I think this idea is beyond stupid. Why should I for example, give up the beauty and history of my state to go to the Norhthwest? To me the whole idea just parralells the concept of White people running to the suburbs. The whole idea is pathetic and just another way to run from the problem without facing it.
This says to me that Roof took one whiff of Covington's output and flushed it. He had wasted much less time on Covington than the SNP-voter had.
That's characteristic of Roof, a trenchant critic of several other far-right causes which critiques he brought to other blogs. Even Roof's flags were in the "moderate far right": Lee's battle-flag is not the Stars And Bars, the old South Africa flag unites Boers with non-Boers, and Rhodesia was an attempt to segue into a modern black-led state. (One service the modern-day braveheart does provide is to point out that the Rhodesians had no time for Covington, either.) If you're going to discuss Roof's influences, you need to know this.
One may certainly argue that none of this makes the far-right look any better. But the Mel Gibson fan here is setting fire not only to a strawman, but to the wrong strawman. I expect it has a manifesto of its own somewhere.
