How did Romney win the nomination?

Ace of Spades HQ has two articles. One is a sidebar, which one rdbrewer posted. Steve Baldwin says that Romney paid off conservative organs to endorse him. Another is a main post, by Ace himself. Ace says that Romney's internal opposition was a joke. (Ace supported Perry in the primary, remember. Ace isn't Half-Sigma, "competence ueber alles". So Ace is, in this case, speaking from an unbiased standpoint.)

It has been said, I cannot remember who said it (National Review?), that Romney was the only candidate in the GOP primaries who showed up in his interview suit.

Part of that "interview suit" must be to deal with the media - all the media. So, pace Baldwin, Romney's subversion of the Right's media was the right thing to do. A candidate can't run a general campaign with his own side's media and leading-lights against him. (Wasn't that sorta what happened in 1992 and 1996? and in 1968 and 1980?)

Advantage: Ace. You can't beat some-one with no-one. The GOP primary this year was like the McCain / Hayworth primary in 2010.
