When that tsunami hit Aceh, ungenerous American Rightists like 100%er and Allahpundit boorishly pointed out that Aceh was full of Islamists who had cheered when the WTC fell. Blue and "Purple" State America, meanwhile, ignored those boors and gave generously. One of our particularly European, and anti-Rightist, cities was New Orleans in Louisiana.
A hurricane has recently turned New Orleans into a toxic lake, now disputed between armed gangs and the US armed forces. Thousands of citizens, mostly voters against Bush, have died. There can be no recovery for that city.
The current response from Kuwait, assuming that this minister is not fired (and he won't be), is as follows: 'The terrorist Katrina' is a 'soldier of Allah'. Translated into American English, he said that this storm deserves as much adoration as does a martyr for the faith.
One of Michael Moore's more astute statements was that the soldiers of Allah had hit buildings in Manhattan, whose people had not voted for Bush in 2000; and, had they lived, they would not have voted for him in 2004. It's safe to say the same about those killed or left destitute by this latest "soldier of Allah".
I don't have a dog in American politics either way, any more. But just as the Islamic world's response to 9/11 should have taught the upper-class Left that militant Islam was its enemy, so should Kuwait's response teach the lower-class Left.
As for donating to communities of extremist Muslims when they suffer mishap, I really don't see the point.
