Benedictine mysticism

Some weeks ago, a Freeper called "Taomerline" noted that the Prophecy of St. Malachy predicts that a Pope whom it calls gloria olivae should be in office right about now. So, reasons Taomerline, if the new Pope wished to pay his regards to this prophecy, and to the Benedictine order, then he'd choose the name Benedict XVI.

The cardinals have chosen a Pope from Germany with ties to this order. The prophecy of St. Malachy is well-known in such circles, and Cardinal Ratzinger - now Pope Benedict XVI - cannot be ignorant of it.

This Pope has endorsed the prophecy as his first act of office. A number of conclusions present themselves from this. First among them: he believes that he is the last-but-one Pope of the Petrine line.
